Gratitude is a POWERFUL Emotion!

You can use any pebble as your gratitude stone!

In this short article I would like to share with you the HAPPINESS that carrying a gratitude stone with me has generated. Let me explain, a couple of years ago I bought the DVD the secret, and as I watched it I had a pen and notebook by my side to capture ideas which I could use to improve my own life.

One of the teachers, I’m not sure who, mentioned that he carried a non-descript stone with him which he referred to as a gratitude stone, and when he touches it that reminded him to think about all of the good things which he has to be grateful for in his life.

What a GREAT IDEA! The gratitude stone idea immediately struck a chord with me because until that point I would not have described myself as a gracious person.

EVERYTHING happens for a reason…

The very next day I visited my friend Elizabeth Diamond at her home in Weston Super Mare in a North Somerset area. While chatting over a cup of tea I couldn’t help noticing all of the HIGHLY POLISHED stones she had in a large jar on her kitchen table. “That’s what I want” I said loudly, and went on to tell her about the gratitude stone principle I had learned the day before.

Being a kind and generous person, Elizabeth immediately reached into the jar and removed a couple of the shiny stones which she gave to me as a gift. I was really pleased and immediately committed to carry one with me most places I went.

Most days I walk up and down the beach outside my home, and that they was no exception. As I did so I held my gratitude stone firmly in the palm of my hand and started to think about the things which I was grateful for. My wife and lovely children, the idyllic location in which we live, the privileged lifestyle we lead, and the daily opportunity we have, I was REALLY GRATEFUL for them all.

No sooner had I started doing this than my feelings DRAMATICALLY and positively started to alter and change change. Just recognising these positive assets in my life ignited a warm, HIGH-ENERGY glow deep inside me, and I felt happy all over. It was a feeling that lasted for many hours and was so strong I couldn’t wait to repeat it the following day.

The next morning, as I went for my walk, I again held my gratitude stone in the palm of my hand and started to think and focus my thoughts on the things I was happy and lucky to have in my life. IMMEDIATELY, the warm and positive feelings came flooding back into my consciousness and this time seemed to stay with me for even longer. I noticed that every time I went through this process I became more aware of the many things which I have gratitude for, new things I have never given consideration to before. I also noticed that these feelings of elation made me far more creative than usual, and that I would think more kindly of my fellow man.

Since then, I spend a little time every day holding my gratitude stone, usually as I’m walking and thinking about the things I love, and which I am TRULY GRATEFUL for. This short session has become one of the highlights of my daily routine and in some ways it has transformed me. I am no longer an ungracious person, but by contrast someone who is OVERFLOWING with gratitude for the opportunities that I have every day, and the beautiful things I have around me which enrich my life.

Please do something for me, try this simple technique for yourself, just for a week or so and I think you’ll find it hard to stop when she started.

    Hi Kevin,

I agree with all you say – and I’ve also found that being grateful for the hard times, the stressful times, the painful times, works wonders too.

It may sound strange to be grateful for what we usually judge as negative, but I’ve found that what we could generically call “pain” can be a portal to a sublime peace.

    ciao,

    Leo
